My Life

(Part 1) I was born and grew up in St Peter MN.

St Peter is a beautiful river valley community in southern Minnesota. My dad a Hungarian immigrant escaped the Communist revolution in the late 50′s and soon after arriving to Ellis Island in New York came to make Minnesota his home. My mom grew up in the St Peter area. They met. dated and married soon after that. My mom and dad ran the DX gas station when I was young. I have some fond memories of hanging out there.

My parents raised us in a Christian home and like others in that day used the “get in the car” method to insure we went to church. As I grew in to my teen years that method started to clash with “my style” Hey it was the 70′s!  I am very glad for the example of  foundation and discipline this gave me for my faith later in life. Thanks mom and dad!

I at a very early age was drawn to music especially drums. I bought my first real kit when I was 11 and played in many garage bands through High School. I was heavily influenced by groups like the Beatles, Allman bros, Eagles, Doobie Bros, America, Grand Funk, and much more. I remember every name of  each band I was in in order…Neon War…Mantle Tree Iron…Easy Street…Leo Starr…Hand Picked.

My grandma was a dear saint and I to this day remember how she always was trying to get others to go to heaven with her. Her faith was amazing. She worried that I was not going to be able to use my talents for God and tried booking my first band at a church function. Although looking back at the “gig” today and smiling and loving what my grandma was trying to do…I still remember a comment made to me by another saint telling me “…you do know you will never be able to play drums in church don’t you…” as being one of those defining moments in my life that had some bad outcomes at first but later for the good.

I look back at that time and knew in the deepest part of my heart I wanted to play music for God and see now that He was already preparing me for the amazing journey ahead…ups and downs…mountain tops and valleys…desert and oasis…life!!

Jeremiah 29:11-12 “…For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.  Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you…”
